Cholmol Garden Office / Summerhouse
For this project we were tasked with constructing a thermally efficient, durable, and fire-resistant structure that complies with building regulations for this project. The use of thermalite blocks and insulated cavity walls achieved these requirements, but the raw appearance was modernist and unattractive. To enhance its aesthetic appeal, we clad the structure in Thermowood, a cost-effective and environmentally friendly product with the durability of hardwood.
Thermowood is created by baking selected softwood timber to the point just before charring, making it rot-resistant and imbuing it with beautiful hues of burnt caramel and a slightly smoky scent. The office space, with its high levels of insulation, provides a cool, comfortable environment in summer without the need for air conditioning and remains warm in winter with minimal heating. Additionally, it is equipped with power and data cables for high-speed internet connection.
Adjacent to the office space, we constructed a secure, shelf-lined "shed" area for our clients to store their garden tools and bicycles.
