Kensal Loft Conversion
The project entailed the construction of an environmentally conscious, exceptionally thermally efficient, and exquisitely designed loft dormer and outrigger extension. The scope included a luxurious bathroom adorned with handcrafted Moroccan tiles, a custom-made plywood wardrobe for the bedroom, and the installation of a new staircase harmonizing with the existing original structure.
In pursuit of optimal thermal performance, the loft was meticulously insulated using a combination of three advanced space-age insulation materials, achieving a remarkable U value of less than 0.12. This translates to superior cooling capabilities in the summer without the need for air conditioning, minimal heating requirements in winter, and exceptional soundproofing to shield the interior from street noise.
The exterior was elegantly finished with non-combustible cement board, imparting a striking resemblance to the timber-clad facades of American colonial architecture. To further align with the energy-saving and eco-friendly objectives of the project, a solar thermal system was integrated to efficiently heat the client's hot water, resulting in significant reductions in their gas consumption.
