Reclaimed Cobble Patio
Kensal Garden was a project that involved transforming a neglected steeply sloping black garden into a tiered double-level space with reclaimed cobblestone flooring, built-up beds, and a steel verandah for creepers to grow over. The project required moving hundreds of tons of soil and materials, including concrete, sand, and bricks. Over 25 meters of brick wall were constructed using reclaimed bricks, along with the installation of exterior lighting and sockets.
The project also included the installation of hidden underground drainage and irrigation systems, extensive foundations, and a large retaining wall to support the upper tier of the garden. The verandah was custom-designed using auto CAD software and fabricated by steel manufacturers, then hot-dipped galvanised to match the client's reclaimed water tanks used as planters.
Trellis fencing was installed to conceal an access alley to the railway and provide support for the creepers in the raised beds. The seating area was crafted from cedar wood, a rot-resistant timber suitable for exterior applications. Following the completion of the project, the team was enlisted to landscape and cobble the front and back gardens of a neighbour r on the same street, as well as install a unique water feature using a reclaimed electrical insulator and a bespoke bin shed made from cedar wood.
